Apparent murder-suicide in Ellabell
crimescenetape

The Oct. 1 deaths of an elderly Ellabell couple apparently were the result of a murder-suicide, according to a Bryan County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
Robert and Ann Shuman Sr., of Shumantown Road, were found dead in their home when BCSO deputies were dispatched to the home “in reference to family members unable to get parents to answer the door,” the report states.
After unsuccessful attempts to get someone to answer the door, a deputy entered the home through the garage and found Robert Shuman Sr., 75, in the living room with a pistol in his hand, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Ann Shuman, 71, was found in the master bedroom, the victim of a single gunshot wound, according to the report.
After an investigation by the sheriff’s office, the victims were released to the Bryan County Coroner’s Office. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has not been called in to investigate, according to the GBI.
Sheriff Clyde Smith declined comment.
