Liberty and Long counties are among many Georgia counties to be put under a wind advisory and tornado watch, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
The wind advisory is effective until 7 p.m., and could affect both coastal and inland areas. Southwest winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts of up to 45 mph are likely throughout the afternoon and early evening.
The tornado watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Different from a warning, a tornado watch means the potential exists for tornadoes to form. When a warning has been issued, that means a tornado has been spotted or is occurring.
Severe thunderstorms are also likely to develop throughout the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service's website.
The National Weather Service encourages motorists to use extra caution while driving, especially on bridges and overpasses.
