The Bryan County child who was hit by a truck Thursday while getting off of a school bus has died.

According to Bryan County Coroner Bill Cox, the boy passed at 5:19 a.m. Friday. Deputy Coroner Tommy Flanders said an exact cause of death has not yet been confirmed and the investigation into the accident is ongoing.

The boy was taken to the hospital immediately after the accident on Highway 119 outside of Pembroke.

“A young boy was getting off the school bus and got hit by a vehicle and he is now in route by ambulance to the hospital,” Bryan County Assistant Fire Chief Otis Willis said around 5 p.m. Thursday.
