A 10-month-old baby drowned Monday morning in a Walthourville home, according to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Detective Dennis Davis.
The boy’s mother was bathing him and left her for a few moments to check on a 3-year-old in the home. While checking on the toddler, the mother said she heard a thump in the bathroom and went to investigate. She reportedly found the baby lying face-down in the water.
The mother attempted to administer CPR to the child, and a neighbor with medical-assistance experience helped, Davis said. The baby was transported by emergency medical responders to Winn Army Community Hospital on Fort Stewart, where she was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m.
An autopsy will be conducted Tuesday at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Savannah.
