A contractor working for the CEMIX Mining Company in Long County died Saturday after suffering an apparent heart attack while on company property on Morgan Lake.
Ronald Redgrave, 55, reportedly experienced heart trouble around 7 a.m. Saturday while working on-site. He was a resident of Polk County, Fla.
Emergency responders from Liberty Regional EMS and Ludowici/Long County Volunteer Fire department arrived on the scene first, but efforts to reach Redgrave were hampered by high water, according to fire chief Darrell Ballence.
Redgrave was eventually rescued by employees and airlifted out of the area near Morgan Lake, but he was pronounced dead en route to Savannah Memorial Medical Center.
