DARIEN - McIntosh County Sheriff Steve Jessup says four of his deputies have been suspended after totaling their patrol cars chasing a motorcycle on Interstate 95, likely violating department procedure.

Jessup Monday said the four, who were not identified, were suspended with pay.

Jessup said the rider of the motorcycle has been identified as a soldier at Fort Stewart and is on hold at the Army post until McIntosh County secures warrants for his arrest. His identity also was not given.

Authorities said one deputy almost hit a truck in the right lane, lost control trying to get back into the left and hit another patrol car, which hit a retaining wall. Two other deputies tried to stop and one hit the other in the rear.
