A Liberty County Sheriff’s deputy was taken to a hospital after being involved in a wreck Friday night.

The deputy has not been identified. His injuries were described as minor. The wreck ended a chase.

According to GSP Trooper Markus White said the chase began during a traffic stop on Shaw Road in Walthourville. The trooper said the driver of a Kia Soul with a drive off tag fled the stop was headed into Hinesville at speeds over 80 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The deputy had positioned himself at the corner of Kacey Drive and South Main Extension, waiting for the fleeing suspect.

White said the man allegedly drove the Kia into the deputy’s patrol car, trapping him inside.

The suspect was arrested on the scene and the deputy who has not been identified was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
