Two children were killed and three people injured in a fire this morning in a mobile home near Ellabell.

According to Bryan County Fire Chief Otis Willis the home at 852 Pine Needle Drive caught fire around 4 a.m. Two boys, ages 3 and 4, died, and two adults and third child, age 6, were taken to the hospital with injuries.

“It’s my understanding that they have been transported to Augusta to the burn center,” Willis said.

The state fire marshal was on the scene at 9 a.m. with an arson dog to investigate the cause of the blaze.

“As far as we know, there’s no indication at this time (of suspected arson),” Willis said. “It’s standard practice to investigate when there are fatalities.”

Willis said in addition to Bryan County Fire Department, crews from Pembroke and Effingham responded.

“Basically by 6 this morning we had the fire under control,” he said.

The fatal blaze came on the heels of another house fire in the North Bryan area, Willis said. That incident was also a total loss and has left the family displaced though there were no injuries, he said. More information on that fire was not immediately available.
