The Federal Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating recent alleged kidnappings of at least two Bryan County residents.

Special Agent Stephen Emmet with the FBI field office in Atlanta confirmed the investigation Wednesday but was unable to provide any further details.

“While the FBI can confirm the reports of kidnappings of area businessmen as described, we can also confirm that we are investigating those incidents and, as such, are not currently in a position to provide further detail due to the ongoing nature of this matter,” he said.

According to anonymous and unconfirmed reports, a Richmond Hill businessman was allegedly kidnapped from his home on the Ogeechee River around Christmas, and a similar incident allegedly happened last week to a North Bryan businessman.

According to unconfirmed sources, there were as many as three suspects in each incident. And though details of the suspects have been inconsistent, sources have said the attackers made comments that would imply they were involved in both incidents.

The Savannah Morning News said Thursday that there was a report that the businessmen were released, but no further specifics were provided. Richmond Hill Police Chief Billy Reynolds told the Morning News that no kidnappings had occurred within that city’s limits.

Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith commented only to say that the incidents are being investigated by the FBI.

“I can’t confirm or deny any information,” he said.
