SAVANNAH - Monday is going to be special in the Coastal Empire.  It is the fourth annual 2-1-1 Day.
2-1-1 is a program of the United Way of the Coastal Empire, which includes Liberty County's chapter. United Way's 2-1-1 call center is one of 11 such regional centers in Georgia and serves Chatham, Effingham, Liberty, Bryan and Glynn counties.
2-1-1 is an easy to remember, three-digit number that connects callers to a free information and referral line.  It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When callers dial 2-1-1, they are connected to community resources that meet their current needs. Experts have access to a  comprehensive database of community-based organizations, government agencies and nonprofits in the Coastal Empire. Information can be provided in more than 90 languages and the searchable database is also available to the public online at www.uwce.org/2-1-1.html.
The city of Hinesville has officially declared Feb. 11 as a day to educate the community about 2-1-1 and encourage those in need to use 2-1-1 to find appropriate community resources.
More than 12,000 callers from the Coastal Empire contacted 2-1-1 in 2007 requesting information about ways to improve their lives and get help. 2-1-1 has answered morethan 51,000 calls since its inception in 2001.
For information and referrals, just dial 2-1-1 for assistance.
