Fiery crash kills Ludowici pastor

Joseph Allen Newton, 75, pastor of Ludowici United Methodist Church was killed Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident on I-95 in Liberty County.
Georgia State Patrol Trooper Cpl. Barbara Brewton said Newton had been driving north near mile marker 71 in Riceboro when heis vehicle left the road, drove into the median and struck several trees and burst into flames.  
Firefighters from the Riceboro and Midway volunteer fire and rescue units responded and extinguished the flames, which threatened to cause a brush fire along the interstate.  
The minister, who lives in Brunswick, according to Brewton was driving a 2009 Chevy Cobalt. Liberty County Coroner Reginald Pierce said the victim was burned being recognition and was identified by relatives from vehicles in the vehicle.  
Brewton said it was unclear what forced  Newton off the road. The wreck is under investigation.
