A Walthourville woman’s home was destroyed in a fire early Saturday morning.

Walthourville Police Chief Bernie Quaterman said when Walthourville police Officer Steven Wright arrived at the scene, at Glenbrooke Mobile Home Park on Dunlevie Road, shortly before 1 a.m., the mobile home was fully engulfed. The occupant, identified as Nadene  Furgerson, was able to make it outside safely and will stay with a friend until Red Cross provides assistance, which was expected later Saturday.

Furgerson told Wright she had fallen asleep and was awakened by the smell of smoke. When she went to investigate, she discovered the kitchen was on fire.

The Walthourville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, a unit from the Hinesville Fire Department and another from Liberty County Fire Station 15 were able to extinguish the flames within a few minutes.

No one was injured.
