A Long County woman and her son were displaced from their home by a fire Wednesday morning.

Firefighters from the Long County Fire Department along with a unit from the Walthourville Volunteer Fire and Rescue and Liberty County Station 15 responded to the mobile home fire at Country Manor Mobile Home Park off Tibet Road in Long County.

The incident happened at 9:30 a.m. according to Ludowici/Long County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Chief Chris Moss.

Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately an hour before it was brought under control.

Moss said the woman, who was asleep in the home at the time, woke up when she felt a burning sensation in her throat and smelled smoke. When she tried to leave her bedroom she found flames were blocking her exit in the hallway. She got out a bedroom window, and was not injured.

The fire was called in by Roger Wells, who was visiting nearby Country Manor at the time. Wells said by the time he saw the flames, the home was burning rapidly.

The Red Cross is reportedly helping the family. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
