St. Peter's AME church in Flemington was struck by a vehicle Friday night.

According to GSP Trooper Quincy Melvin, the driver was eastbound shortly before 11 p.m. when he crossed into the westbound lanes. The vehicle struck the church, dislodging bricks and damaging bushes when it came to rest at the corner of the building.

The driver was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center, where his condition was unknown as of Saturday afternoon, although he was expected to survive.

Church steward James Simmons, who surveyed damage to the building while standing on West Oglethorpe Highway said when he learned the man had non-life-threatening injuries, "it's kind of a rough way to get parishioners in here."
