Investigators are unsure what caused a local man to run off South Coastal Highway Friday night. He was killed when his car hit a tree.
Georgia State Patrol Trooper Lyle Thurmond said, “Unfortunately, the driver did not make it through the crash.”
He said the victim’s family had not been notified, so did not identify him. He also declined to speculate what happened, saying the accident was still under investigation.
The wreck happened shortly before 11 p.m. near Lewis Frasier Road’s intersection with Highway 17. At the scene, Thurmond was unsure report when it happened.
He said it appeared the 1996 Ford Thunderbird was headed south when it drifted off the east side of the road and hit a tree.
