A high-speed chase Monday morning through Liberty County landed an alleged Florida car thief in jail.
Georgia State Patrol Trooper 1st Class Lyle Thurmond said he received a “be on the lookout” warning for a stolen 2003 Chevy Tahoe early Monday. The vehicle had been tracked by OnStar. While patrolling West Oglethorpe Highway near Becky Street, Thurmond spotted the SUV, tailed it and called the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office for backup.
Thurmond and a deputy laid down stop sticks, which flattened one tire on the Tahoe. The driver continued on East Oglethorpe and eventually pulled over in the driveway of a home in the 2200 block, where the vehicle got stuck in mud.
The suspect, later identified as Christopher Wines, reportedly ran into the woods, where he was captured by sheriff’s deputies and arrested.
