A Wednesday afternoon armed robbery left a Hinesville store clerk shaken but unharmed.
According to a Hinesville Police Department incident report, Officer Franklin Gallob responded to a report of an armed robbery at Sunset Novelties in the 800 block of Willowbrook Drive. He found store clerk Kerstin McLemore crying and shaking. She told the officer that at 1:38 p.m., a man entered the store, which sells adult novelties, and approached the counter. The man reportedly asked her if the store sold spice. When McLemore told him no, the man asked for change for a $20 bill. At first, he asked for $5 bills but then requested $1 bills instead.
While McLemore retrieved the cash from the register, the man produced a silver handgun and demanded all the money. McLemore said she handed the cash to him.  The gunman then took the store phone and walked out with $220 in the direction of E.G Miles Parkway.
According to Gallob’s report, Detective Melvin Kesner went next door to Donut Connection, where employee Jonathan Whitehead told the detective the suspect came into the shop and took a phone call, during which he described items inside the store to the person on the other end of the line. While on the phone, two customers entered the store and the man left after a few minutes, Whitehead said.
The suspect is a black male, about 6 feet 5 inches tall with a muscular build. He reportedly was wearing a white T-shirt, black basketball shorts with a pattern on the side, a hat and sunglasses.
