A bicyclist hit by a semi-truck on Highway 17 on Friday afternoon has been released from the hospital, according to Capt. Mike Maxwell with the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department.
Maxwell said Henry Frank of Germany was on Highway 17 northbound just over the Bryan County line when a white, older-model Peterbilt semi-truck sideswiped him shortly before 3 p.m. The truck was not hauling anything.
“He’s fine,” Maxwell said. “He suffered some rib and arm injuries … and we flew him out (to Memorial University Medical Center) as a precautionary by Life Star.”
Maxwell said the incident still is under investigation because authorities were not able to make contact with the truck driver.
“I don’t know if the person driving knew they hit anybody,” Maxwell said. “We put out a regional broadcast and talked to the news about it, but we haven’t gotten any leads.”
Anyone who has any information regarding the incident is asked to call 756-3101, Maxwell said.
