Freeze and wind chill advisories have been issued for tonight and tomorrow morning for our area, according to the Liberty County Emergency Management Agency.
The National Weather Service’s Charleston office says it will be coldest in the area so far this wineter.
The freeze warning is straight forward. It’s going to get cold tonight, possibly into the low 20s. You’re advised to remain inside if possible, bring your pets inside if they don’t have warm shelter outside, cover vulnerable plants, drip water if you have exposed plumbing and check on elderly and home-bound neighbors who may have heating issues.
The wind chill advisory means it’s going to seem even colder than the actual temperature because of wind. The advisory will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, when the breeze will make it seem like it is 5-10 degrees.
Hypothermia is possible during even quick trips outside, if you are not dressed for the cold. So break out the coats, gloves and hats if you have to go outside. Make sure kids dress warmly to go to school.
The high Thursday is expected to be in the low 40s and temperatures will drop into the 20s again Thursday night.
