A man sought for kidnapping by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department was caught by the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office late Thursday evening in Liberty County
LCSO Chief Deputy Keith Moran confirmed his department caught the suspect, Brandon Peters, but referred questions to Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie’s office.
According to Effingham County Sheriff’s Department booking desk Officer Garett Buckles, Peters was arrested in Liberty County and taken to Effingham County Jail, where he was booked at 10:22 p.m.
“He is in our facility,” Buckles said. “He was brought directly (by Liberty County Sheriff’s Department deputies) to us.”
Peters, who was denied bond, is charged with aggravated assault (other dangerous weapon), kidnapping (adult), burglary and theft by taking (felony — automobile).
According to a Dec. 20 news release by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department, Peters allegedly entered a Springfield residence Thursday, tied up a female and then drove her to a nearby ATM. When the woman struggled to get out of the stolen Dodge van Peters was driving, he allegedly ran over her before driving away. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators believe Peters knew the victim, saying she was not a random target. The release also said Peters has an “extensive criminal history” and was considered “armed and dangerous.” Buckles did not say if Peters was armed at the time of his arrest.
