U.S. Representative Jack Kingston (R-Savannah) will be in Ludowici today (Wednesday) honoring the Ludowici/Long County Volunteer Fire Department.
As wildfires ravaged southeast Georgia and Florida in April and May, members of the department stepped in to help squelch the natural disaster that scorched more than 472,000 acres of federal, state and private land in a 21-county area in Georgia alone.
“The wildfires in both states combined to become one of the largest wildfires in the history of the southeast,” Kingston said. “These firefighters had to endure grueling conditions but they never gave up.”
The congressman will hold a fire certificate presentation to recognize the work of firefighters and the fire department during a ceremony today at 3 p.m. in front of the Long County Courthouse.
The public is invited.
