Sept. 18: Identity theft fraud — A Hinesville woman contacted deputies and said she’d received a call from Target regarding the credit card she’d recently applied for in Pennsylvania. The woman said she’d never applied for a credit card at Target. The Target representative reportedly told the woman that the person who applied for the card had all of her personal information. The woman said she contacted the Federal Trade Commission and was told to file a report with local authorities. The complainant was given a case number.

Conversion of payments for real property improvements — A Ruben Wells Road man said he paid a contractor $1,425 to replace the siding on his home. After two months, the man said the contractor had not completed the job and he was unable to contact him, despite many attempts. The complainant provided the deputy with a copy of the signed work contract and a copy of the check he paid the contractor. He was advised on follow-up procedures.
