A woman is being held without bond after being arrested in the June shooting death of her husband, the Long County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday.

Sherry Jane Bailey was arrested Jan. 29 and was charged with malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with the June 24 incident in a hunting club near the Long County Board Landing, according to the Friday news release.

The Long County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call the afternoon of June 24 stating that a man had been shot at the hunting club.

Deputies and investigators responded and discovered the lifeless body of Russell Otis “Rusty” Bailey, who lived in the area just off Beards Bluff Road.

The day after Bailey was killed, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Stacy Carson issued a statement saying it had opened a death investigation but said that foul play was not suspected.

On Jan. 19, the Atlantic Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office presented the investigation to a Long County grand jury. On Jan. 26, the grand jury returned an indictment, and a special presentation bench warrant was issued for the arrest of Sherry Bailey.
