Kenny Jernigan, who is suspected in a fatal home invasion in Pierce County, was arrested in Long County Monday.

Pierce County Sheriff Ramsey Bennett said Jernigan is a person of interest in a home invasion robbery, assault and murder Sunday evening near Patterson. According to reports, an elderly woman was killed and her husband injured during the incident.

The couple were in their 80s, according to Bennett. He said they both had signs of blunt force trauma. The victims have been identified by regional media as Flora and Dan Hollman.

WTOC reports that a relative of the victims, Ariane Howard, said, “Aunt Flora could barely walk and he was in a wheelchair, you know?”

Long County Sheriff Craig Nobles said his office received a call Monday afternoon reporting a vehicle broken down in the middle of a road near the sheriff’s department.

Nobles said the caller said the driver appeared to be acting suspicious. Nobles said officers arrived to find Jernigan seated in the car, holding a butcher knife.

Nobles said it appeared that Jernigan had cut his wrists. The sheriff credited his officers in acting swiftly to apprehend Jernigan without incident.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment and has since by transferred to Pierce County to face charges.
