Attorney Billy Joe Nelson Jr. took the oath of office Thursday in Ludowici as the new assistant district attorney for the Atlantic Judicial Circuit of Georgia.
Nelson was sworn in by Superior Court Judge Robert L. Russell III during a recess at the Long County Courthouse.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit, and I appreciate all of the support that has been shown to me in that regard,” Nelson said.
In Nelson’s oath he affirmed that he would support the U.S. and Georgia Constitutions, that he did not currently hold any elected position, and that he did not owe any public money to the state of Georgia. Nelson resides in Hinesville and has been practicing law for four years.
He was appointed to the position by AJC District Attorney Tom Durden.
“I’m excited about Billy Joe coming back to the Atlantic Judicial Circuit,” Russell said. “I’ve always enjoyed working with him, and he is a very competent and professional individual.”
