A Hinesville woman hit the gas pedal instead of the brake Tuesday while parking at the Liberty County Jail, damaging a part of the building.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the woman, Rasheeda Labon, struck the jail house wall while she was pulling into a parking space around 11:20 a.m.

The GSP said Labon hit the gas pedal thinking she was depressing the brake. The vehicle lurched forward, damaging a section of the facility which houses the jail administration manager, according to Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jon Long.

The Georgia State Patrol said the impact cracked the wall, causing damage to both sides. An administrator was sitting two feet from the wall at her desk when the accident occurred, and Long said for safety reasons she will have to be relocated.

There are currently no estimates on what it will cost to repair the wall.

GSP said Labon was not injured, however her vehicle was totaled. She was not cited for the accident.
