A little over four months ago, Michael Jones received the news his son, Steven, was shot and killed in the Second Street home he shared with his younger brother, Nathan.
Steven was reportedly shot while he slept after Nathan was pistol-whipped by two men who are believed to have broken into the home Dec. 8.
An officer tried to revive the 23-year-old Armstrong Atlantic State University student, but was unsuccessful.
While the Hinesville Police Department has continued to investigate the events that led to Steven’s death, Michael Jones said his family has slowly come to terms with the loss.
“I still miss him. I still have times when I think about him,” the father said. “But we (the family) have accepted the loss and now we just want some answers.”
Eager to get new information about the case to investigators, Jones is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Steven Jones.
“Somebody may know something or heard something, but they’re reluctant to just come out and talk to the police,” he said. “A $2,500 reward might loosen up some tongues.”
According to Jones, it will be up to the community to keep the HPD from adding Steven’s death to its list of unsolved murders.
“There was one unsolved murder in Hinesville prior to this and they (HPD investigators) took great pride in telling me that the night my son was killed,” he said. “I don’t want to see them have to double their record.”
