RV fire closes Islands Highway
Islands Highway fire
Firefighters make sure hot spots in the remains of an RV that burned on Islands Highway Tuesday morning don't spread to the surrounding grass.

An RV fire on Islands Highway around 9 a.m. Tuesday temporarily shut down the road between Fort Morris and Trade Hill roads.
The driver said he smelled smoke, so he pulled over and went to get his extinguisher. By the time he opened the electrical panel, the fire was raging. The driver escaped unharmed. Firefighters battled the blaze for more than two hours, and traffic was able to get through by about 2:30 p.m., according to Trade Hill resident Bruce McCartney, who witnessed the incident.
