South Carolina authorities arrested a man Wednesday in connection with bomb threats at Long County High School and a government building in Glynn County in February.

Dakota Wade Chestnut, 20, of Gaston, South Carolina, was arrested at his home without incident by Lexington County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a felony warrant charging him with transmitting a false public alarm, according to the Glynn County Police Department. 

Chestnut’s only tie to Long County was that he was involved with a woman whose daughter attended the high school, Long County Sheriff Craig Nobles said.

In Long County, Chestnut faces charges of false report of a crime, unlawful use of a communications device, false public alarm and terroristic threats and acts, Nobles said.

Chesnut is currently incarcerated in Lexington County. The arrest is the result of a joint investigation by the Glynn County Police Department, Long County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Chestnut also is accused of calling in a bomb threat the Harold Pate Courthouse Annex in Brunswick and a hospital, in addition to Long County High, on Feb. 26.

The call into the high school came in around 2:30 p.m. that day, prompting officials to close the school and move the students to a safer area.

Nobles said more out-of-state arrests are expected soon.
