Two of the three suspects in last week’s shooting death of a Macon man made first appearances in magistrate’s court Monday morning in the courtroom located in the Liberty County jail.

James Stumps, 20, of Hinesville and Derrick Harvey, 19, of Long County have also been charged with murder, as well as armed robbery. Wearing orange jump suits, the suspects were ushered one by one into the courtroom before Magistrate Judge Jimmie Bowmar who denied both men bond.

A third suspect, Julous Mathenia, 22, of Long County was allegedly driving the other two and wasn’t with the other two men when Markese Mahone of Macon was shot early Friday at the Days Inn and Suites in Flemington. According to Liberty County Sheriff Steve Sikes, Mathenia will will be charged as the others under Georgia law. His appearance was expected later Monday after authorities confer with the district attorney.

Mahone according to Sikes was shot once in the left shoulder and was found lying in between two rooms by Liberty County Deputy Dustin Rushing. Mahone was unresponsive, lying in a pool of blood.
