A 23-year-old Fort Stewart soldier is facing multiple counts of computer pornography following his arrest Monday.
White County Chief Deputy John O’Brien said Adam Keith Hull was arrested at about 2 p.m. and charged with three counts of violating the Computer Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act of 1998.
The arrest stemmed from a three to four-week investigation, according to O’Brien.
“He was having sexually oriented language on the Internet with someone who he believed was a 14-year-old girl.
“The person he was actually conversing with was one of my investigators purporting as a 14-year old. There were regularly conversations between the two but there were no plans to meet,” the deputy said.
Fort Stewart law enforcement officials assisted with the arrest.
“He was out in the field on maneuvers and they brought him back from the field,” O’Brien said.
The soldier was turned over to the White County Sheriff’s department and transported to White County, just outside of Cleveland, Ga., to face the charges.
Hull is being held in the White County Detention Center. Bond was set at $15,300 Wednesday morning.
“He’ll probably see a judge for a probable cause hearing within a week if he can’t make bond,” O’Brien said.
Hull could face stiff penalties if convicted of violating the act made law in 2003. “It’s not less than five and no more than ten years for each count, in addition to $100,000 fine on each count,” the deputy said.
According to Fort Stewart Public Information Chief, Hull is a specialist assigned to the 26th Brigade Support Battalion. His unit is preparing for deployment to Iraq in May.
The soldier is originally from a small Georgia town and is married. He has not had visits from his wife or any other family members since the arrest, O’Brien noted.
“He’s remorseful,” the deputy said.
If convicted on all charges, Hull could face up to 30 years imprisonment.
