Carl Evan Swain was sentenced Monday to three life sentences in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, according to 1st Assistant U.S. Attorney James Durham.

Durham said there is no parole in the federal system.

Swain was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder for money in the 2013 killing of his brother-in-law, Army Spc. John Eubank, during a jury trial that was held in March.

Swain beat Eubank to death with a baseball bat. During a March 2014 hearing, Durham stated that reports by the FBI alleged that Eubank’s widow, Lillie Eubank, arranged for her and Swain to murder her husband so she could collect on his $500,000 life-insurance policy.

Eubank was separated from the case and is set to be tried at a later date, Durham said.
