The body of 3rd Infantry Division soldier Cpl. Catlin May was recovered Saturday, from Fort Stewart recreational pond No. 28.

May was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team.

Fort Stewart public affairs spokesman Kevin Larson said several people who happened to be fishing in the area saw May, who was fishing from a small boat, fall into the water but were unable to retrieve him. These witnesses called emergency services, Larson said.

Post first responders pulled May from the pond and pronounced him dead at approximately 6:30 p.m.

"Results from a preliminary investigation do not indicate any foul play in the incident according to CID (Criminal Investigation Division)," Larson said. The investigation in-
to May’s death is ongoing.

The 1st Brigade Combat Team will hold a memorial ceremony for May on Thursday. A time for the service has not yet been announced.
