Storm watch changed to ice storm warning

An ice storm warning has been issued for 5 p.m. Tuesday to 5 p.m. Wednesday by the National Weather Service.

It is also dropping the winter storm warning, according to a 4 p.m. report.

Temperatures are expected to start dropping tonight and rain develop Tuesday afternoon. It will likely turn to sleet, ice and snow as the temperatures drop. The precipitation, which could become heavy at times, will continue to fall until Wednesday morning.

The service warns that ice accumulations could turn to as much as a half inch, making driving and walking dangers, and causing widespread power outages.

Some area schools, including Long County, have already called off classes for Wednesday and Thursday.
