Two people were killed Wednesday afternoon in a wreck in Liberty County.
According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper William Bowman, the accident occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highways 196 and 17. Bowman said Emory Corbitt, 64, of Broxton, and his cousin, Thomas L. Corbitt, 83, were driving north on 196 in a 2004 Buick Park Avenue when Emory Corbitt apparently ran a stop sign and was struck on the left side by Myra Norris, 47, of Jesup, who was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Gallant.
After being struck, the Buick continued to travel north in the southbound lane until it stopped in a ditch. He was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel at the scene.
Thomas Corbitt was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah were he was later pronounced dead.
Norris was taken to St. Joseph Candler Hospital in Savannah and is listed in stable condition, according to Bowman.
Emory Corbitt is a retired corporal of the Douglas Police Department.
