The diver that went missing Tuesday morning in St. Catherines Sound, Bill Eberlein, has been found alive and was treated on a Sea Tow boat, according to Liberty County Eastern District Volunteer Fire and Rescue firefighter Joe Cannon.

He had been diving with others for megaladon shark teeth and was presumed missing when he surfaced from a dive a far distance from his vessel. Eberlein was found more 3 miles out into the sea after spending 2-1/2 hours awaiting rescue.

The Liberty County Eastern District Volunteer Fire and Rescue, headed by Fire Chief Joe Martin, has launched a boat to assist the Coast Guard in the search for a diver who was training in St. Catherines Sound and is now missing, according to Liberty County EMA Director and Fire Coordinator Mike Hodges.

Eastern District Fire and Rescue firefighter Joe Cannon said the department was notified by the Coast Guard shortly after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning that a diver was missing.
