Liberty County’s Woodland Lakes subdivision recently was the target of vandals when homes, vehicles and signs were spray-painted with alleged gang graffiti.

Sheriff Steve Sikes said the acts of vandalism were done late Thursday night when the vandals spray-painted homes and vehicles with gang-related symbols and the words “Delta Gang Family.”

Sikes said up to 16 items where spray-painted throughout the subdivision, which sits off of Limerick Road near Lake George.

One homeowner who deterred the vandals from entering his property told authorities there were four individuals whom he had stopped from a distance, Sikes said.

The spray-painting incident is considered a misdemeanor; however, a school bus was also vandalized, which makes it destruction to government property, a felony.

Sikes offered this recommendation to the vandals.

"I wouldn't go back into that subdivision if I were you,” he said. “Many of the homeowners are watching the area. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't vandalize anything in Liberty County."

Sikes said the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate and has strong leads.
