Qualifying for this year's upcoming county partisan primaries got underway Monday as contenders from across Liberty County made their way to the Liberty County Voter Registration Office to file their official notices of candidacies.
Liberty County Chief Registrar Ella Golden said the first two days of qualifying were steady as candidates came in to file paperwork and residents checked in daily to see what new names had been added to the list.
"We have had people in and out of the office," she said.
A review of the qualifying list as of Tuesday shows the names of many incumbents, such as Probate Court Judge Nancy Aspinwall and Superior Court Clerk Barry Wilkes, but also includes newcomer Jerald Burgess, who qualified for the Liberty County sheriff's race.
Other candidates planning to have their names placed on the July 15 primary ballot have until Friday, May 2 at noon to complete their qualifying documents.
Anyone needing with questions or concerns about the process can stop by the registrar's office located at 102 South Commerce Street in Hinesville or call the office at 876-3310.
