Red Cross sets blood drives in area
red cross logo
The American Red Cross needs help to bring back the A’s, B’s and O’s.
The letters represent blood types, and during blood shortages these letters go missing from hospital shelves. The Red Cross urges donors of all blood types to give now to help prevent delays in patient care.
While thousands of donors have answered the call, more are needed to help ensure blood types don’t go missing. During the summer, especially around holidays, donations often don’t keep pace with patient needs. The Red Cross is thanking all those who donate July 2-7 with a Red Cross Missing Types T-shirt, while supplies last.
Here are some upcoming blood drives:

There are many more opportunities to donate across the region, especially at the Savannah Blood Donation Center, 25 Tibet Ave. To learn about them, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-733-2767. You can also make appointments there.
A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 in most states, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.
