Rep. Williams gets nod for community service

State Rep. Al Williams, D-Midway, received in January a community service award for his dedication and commitment to his community.

The award was given during the 2018 American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Civil and Human Rights Conference in Houston, Texas.

“The Central Georgia Federation of Trades and Labor Council excels at fighting for social and economic justice, and I am honored to be recognized by such an outstanding organization,” said Williams. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my community as a state representative, and it is a privilege to advocate for those who are treated unjustly.”

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Civil and Human Rights Conference, which took place from Jan. 12-15, was hosted by the Central Georgia Federation of Trades and Labor Council in Houston, Texas. The three-day conference brought together hundreds of social justice professionals, activists and community leaders and focused on advocating for racial and economic equality.

The Central Georgia Federation of Trades and Labor Council is one of 500 labor councils that make up the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).

Representative Al Williams represents the citizens of District 168, which includes portions of Liberty County.
