Residents encouraged to be wary of scammers
SCAM Alert

According to Hinesville Police Department’s Tracey Howard, scammers have targeted Hinesville in a door-to-door attempt to gather driver’s license and insurance information from residents, which could lead to fraudulent activity.

The scam involves individuals in medical scrubs going door to door, claiming they have medical certification in buccal swabbing for DNA collection, Howard said. They claim they can take swabs from the individual for DNA testing.

There has been only one complaint, which occurred off of Memorial Drive in Hinesville, Howard continued.

Originally, scammers were targeting those in Tatnall County, and have moved their efforts to the Hinesville and Savannah area, Howard said.

HPD encourages residents to report any scam activity.
