Crime scene tape

A single vehicle accident has claimed the life of a Riceboro man after he lost control of his dirt bike Sunday afternoon.

According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper, Sgt. David Laff, a man identified as James D. Williams was killed on Shell Road in Riceboro when he apparently lost control of the dirt bike he was riding.

Laff said Williams was riding his bike shortly after 5 p.m. on Shell Road when he failed to maintain his lane of travel.

According to the Trooper, Williams’ bike struck a concrete culvert causing the bike to become airborne and traveling 56 feet before it came to rest in a grassy shoulder of the roadway.

Williams was thrown 38 feet from where his bike landed.

Williams, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, sustained head trauma when his helmet came off after he was thrown from the bike.

Williams was transported by ambulance to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville where he was later pronounced dead.  Laff said Williams had a Riceboro address.
