HPD warns of phone scam
anonymous phone

The Hinesville Police Department advises the public that there is a phone scam occurring in Hinesville in which residents are receiving fraudulent calls from an unknown number claiming to be the Social Security Administration.

The caller states that an account has been created with the recipient’s social security number and their identity is in jeopardy. Once this call has ended, they receive a follow up call that appears to come from the Hinesville Police Department. The caller will then state that the issue with their social security number is legitimate and should be taken seriously. The recipient is then instructed to call the unknown number back where they will be told to pay an amount determined by the caller in order to protect their identity.

If you receive a call like this, the Hinesville Police Department asks that you please do not engage with the caller and file a report with the police department by calling the main line at 912-368-8211 and ask to speak to an officer.

For more information, please contact the Hinesville Police Department at 912-368-8211 or Whitney Morris – Reed, Public Relations Manager, at 912-408-3569 or wmorrisreed@cityofhinesville.org.
