The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for portions of Liberty, Long and McIntosh County in southeastern Georgia until 4 p.m.
The NWS reported a severe thunderstorm located near Gardi, moving east at 45 mph.
The storm may bring ping pong ball size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.
People are encouraged to seek shelter indoors. Pets should be brought indoors as well. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect wind damage to trees and powerlines.
The storm is expected to impact Darien, Tibet, Jones, Wolf Island, Harris Neck, St. Catherines Island, Eulonia and Valona.
The warning included areas east of I-95 between mile markers 50 and 70. The NWS reported increased rotation detected and a tornado warning may be needed. Remain alert for a possible tornado.
Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado, take shelter in a closet, bathroom or small, central room in a sturdy structure.
