Just two weeks into the new year, the Hinesville police are investigating the city’s first homicide of 2007.
According to Chief of Detectives Maj. Thomas Cribbs, 19-year-old Deterrell Esque Jackson was shot multiple times outside a mobile home in the Alston Ridge Mobile Home Park on Jan. 16.
The young man was found on the ground suffering from the fatal gunshot wounds by officers responding to a report of shots fired near the park’s lot 68, sometime after 6 p.m.
Cribbs said it was unclear why Jackson, who lived on Flo Zechman Drive, was in the area but believed his death was the result of a confrontation.
“We believe there was some type of argument that ensued and then there was some gun play,” he said.
Two men wearing white T-shirts were reportedly seen fleeing the area from an adjacent lot, but investigators did not know whether the men were linked to the shooting.
Jackson’s body was sent to a crime lab on Jan. 17 for an autopsy.
