Contract workers are en route to assess and repair the washout of a sidewalk along Highway 57 near Long County High School. The sidewalk is closed for safety since the fill underlying the concrete is completely eroded.

Engineer Trent Long said the recent heavy rains caused the washout and that it would probably take only a couple of days to repair the sidewalk once work is started. 

The new sidewalk had been in place for about a month. The compromised section of sidewalk is near a wooden pedestrian bridge; no damage to the bridge is reported.
