A Fort Stewart soldier was killed in a traffic accident Friday morning at Gen. Screven Way and Gause Street in Hinesville. 

The soldier's name will not be released until 24 hours after next of kin is notified, according to Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson.

Hinesville Police Department Traffic Accident Unit Corporal Richard Boucher said the soldier was on a motorcycle and headed toward Fort Stewart shortly before 9 a.m. when a tried to turn left off Stewart onto Gause Street in front of the motorcycle. Charges are pending against the driver. 

The Hinesville Police Department is investigating and witnesses to the accident are asked to call 912-368-8211.
