ATLANTA — A man scheduled to be put to death next week for the killing of an Atlanta preschool teacher will not be making a presentation at a clemency hearing.

Emmanuel Hammond's attorney Brian Mendelsohn said his client will not be seeking clemency at the hearing scheduled on Friday by the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles. He said that Hammond would instead focus his efforts in litigating his case in court.

Hammond is set to die Tuesday for the July 1988 abduction and murder of 27-year-old Julie Love.

The preschool exercise instructor was pulled inside Hammond's car after she ran out of gas in north Atlanta, and her body was found more than a year later in a trash dump.
