DARIEN - A Darien man has been charged with felony murder and cruelty to children in the death of his 15-year-old stepson, who was left alone after the two got lost on a hunting trip and the man went to seek help.
McIntosh County Sheriff Steve Jessup says Brian Gale was arrested Thursday. Superior Court Judge Robert Russell ordered him released on his own recognizance Friday.
Mike McDaniel, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Kingsland office, says Gale left the boy without materials needed to maintain sufficient body temperature.
Gale and the boy had gone hunting in March in the Altamaha Wildlife Management Area. The boy was found lying face down in a pool of water.
The telephone number listed for Gale is out of service. Sheriff's officials do not know if he has a lawyer.
