The Georgia Association of Educators has named Rep. Al Williams, D-Midway, as its 2015 Legislator of the Year.

Williams received the award during the recent GAE 2015 spring convention held in College Park.

“We chose to honor Rep. Williams because of his shared commitment to improving Georgia’s public schools and his belief that educators must be part of the dialogue and decision-making on issues impacting public schools and students,” GAE President Dr. Sid Chapman said. “He understands that much of the legislation brought forth in this session failed to address the core issues facing our schools and lacked a comprehensive approach that considers social and economic influences in local communities around Georgia. He understands the complexities educators face in their classrooms and school buildings and that everything cannot be simply broken down to pass or fail.”
